Getting into tactics games without the pain

Tactics games scare a lot of players away, and that's a shame because they're some of the most rewarding things you can play on a phone. The trick is to stop thinking about your turn and start thinking about the enemy's. Before you move, ask what the enemy can reach next turn. Half of Ironhold Tactics is just not standing somewhere dumb. High ground and cover matter more than raw stats, especially early on. Don't be afraid to retreat. New players tend to push forward and get surrounded. Pulling back to a chokepoint where enemies can only reach you one at a time turns a losing fight around fast. And take your time. These games are almost always turn-based for a reason. Nobody's rushing you, so use those seconds to actually think.
